Third year trainee at The Indoni Dance, Arts and Leadership Academy, Yolanda Ntanyana (20), from Kraaifontein, and company dancer, Lusindiso Dibela (27) from Khayelitsha, have been offered the opportunity of a lifetime.
As part of a pilot project to train yoga teachers from conflict-ridden communities, Meritxell Martorell, founder-director of Yoga Sinfronteras in Barcelona, partnered with Indoni to empower disadvantaged individuals in Cape Town.
The partnership grew to incorporate, Health Warriors, a non-profit organisation based in Khayelitsha that trains and provides employment opportunities, in well–being professions such as Yoga, to young leaders from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
Rising stars
In January, having completed a grueling month-long course of 200 training hours, and many more spent in studying, Yolanda and Lusindiso, gained an internationally accredited Yoga Teacher Training Certificate.
Having mastered the requirements of this intensive training course, organizers were impressed with their tremendous progress and offered to extend their training with a three month internship at the Sampoorna Yoga , teacher training school in Goa, India.

Lusindiso and Yolanda were overwhelmed to learn of their internship in India, which they described as “A life-changing experience”.
Crowdfunding on BackaBuddy
Yolanda and Lusindiso were pleased to know that through the course of their training at Sampoorna Yoga, their accommodation and living expenses will also be fully funded by the school. Lusindiso and Yolanda are only required to cover the cost of their airfare.
Without the means to cover the cost of their own flights, the Indoni Dance Arts and Leadership Academy has created a campaign on donations based crowdfunding platform, BackaBuddy, to appeal to the public to support the hardworking graduates in realizing their dream.
The campaign went live on the 20 Febuary 2020, and has thus far raised R5377.84 towards the fundraising target of R30 000.
Upon their return home, the duo plan to take their training into their own environments to heal conflict and trauma in their own communities, torn apart by violence.
